Radio stations focus – One Love Radio, Lusaka, Zambia

One Love Radio is a Christian radio station based in Lusaka, Zambia and has four broadcast areas: Lusaka, Siavonga, Mongu and Kasama.

The station offers an amazing platform for Christian ministries, organizations and businesses to reach out to an ever-growing audience.

One of One Love Radio’s broadcast areas, Siavonga, is a rural town in the Southern province of Zambia, which has a population of approximately 90,213, majority Tonga-speaking people, who are hungry for relevant information and messages of hope. Many have been seeking truth and One Love Radio has provided an answer to their search.

The route from Lusaka to Siavonga involves a two and a half hour drive through the Kafue National Park, and as you approach the town, which has an artificial hill layout, the road winds its way around the hills in steep spirals before finally dropping down into the town on the edge of Lake Kariba.

Arriving on an outreach trip to the town, the team was welcomed by happy faces of the townspeople – ’Siavonga’ means ‘Thank You’ from the Ndebele word ‘siyabon’ga’. This made connecting with the local people easy, and interactions effective.

The outreach involved examining the reception of the airwaves in Siavonga, fine-tuning antennas , building relations with the locals and distributing solar-powered radio sets which made it easy for the people to access One Love Radio with clear reception, resolving the challenge that they faced in accessing media channels.

The team engaged with different groups of people, got feedback about the challenges faced to get easy access to information, and also hearing about the issues they encounter in rural areas, such as drought.

It is encouraging to see to that One Love Radio has continued to be a blessing to many lives, and has continued to attract more listeners beyond the borders of Zambia.
